Why Madeleine exists
Madeleine Bedding started in a small Johannesburg studio with a simple frustration: most sheets sold locally were either too thin to last or too stiff to sleep in. We wanted bedding that felt crisp on the first night and stayed that way after fifty washes.
So we began sourcing OEKO-TEX certified cotton and linen from mills that could trace their fibre back to the farm. Every batch is cut and sewn in our own workshop, not outsourced to a third party. That way we control the seam allowance, the hem depth, and the way each corner is finished.
The result is a small catalogue of percale, sateen, and linen pieces that we stand behind without hesitation. We are not trying to make everything for everyone. We make deep-pocket fitted sheets that actually stay on thick mattresses, duvet covers with hidden button closures, and pyjamas cut from breathable cotton-rich fabric.
We list the actual weave and fibre, not an inflated number. A 400-count percale can outperform a 1000-count sateen, and we explain why.

Madeleine Bedding started in a small Johannesburg studio with a single sewing table and a clear idea: bedding should be made slowly, from honest materials, and built to last through years of washing. We are still that workshop, just with a few more cutting tables now.
Every batch of percale sheets, linen duvet covers and cotton sateen sets is cut and sewn in-house. That keeps the quality checks close and lets us adjust a hem or a pocket depth without waiting on a factory overseas.

We source from OEKO-TEX certified suppliers and favour long-staple cotton and European flax. If a fabric does not meet our standard after a test wash, we do not order it again.
